Why PlantWorx 2025 is the place to get serious about Hydrogen
If you want to understand where hydrogen fits into the future of construction, PlantWorx 2025 is where you’ll see the answers starting to take shape.

With over 300 exhibitors, live demonstrations, and a full showcase dedicated to cleaner, smarter power solutions, the UK’s biggest working construction show of the year (23rd- 25th September 2025, Newark Showground) will give visitors a close-up look at the technologies set to reshape plant and site equipment — hydrogen included.

Until recently, hydrogen has been seen as a future option — promising, but distant. That view is shifting fast. A new global forecast puts the hydrogen generation market at $226 billion by 2030, up from $157 billion in 2025. Meanwhile, in the UK, a £200 million investment has just been confirmed for a hydrogen-from-waste plant at Thames Freeport in Tilbury. It’s the first phase of a proposed £1bn national hydrogen corridor, with plans for further sites including Doncaster, where hydrogen will power HGV refuelling and off-grid EV superchargers.

The construction and plant sectors are watching closely. As heavy transport and large machinery remain some of the hardest areas to decarbonise, scalable hydrogen production offers a route away from diesel — if the infrastructure can deliver.

Viki Bell, Chief Executive, CEA Construction Equipment Association said:

“Having worked in the waste industry for many years and explored various energy-from-waste technologies, I personally welcome this kind of innovation. A £200m investment into hydrogen-from-waste is a significant signal of intent, and it’s encouraging to see private finance backing a project that tackles both residual waste and carbon emissions.

The idea of a national hydrogen corridor is particularly relevant to our sector, where heavy plant and transport require practical, scalable alternatives to diesel. This could be a game-changer for construction, logistics, and the wider built environment.

But for it to deliver lasting impact, we need clarity around feedstock sourcing, carbon capture, and the long-term policy framework. The success of this project—and others like it—will hinge on transparency and a joined-up industrial strategy that gives manufacturers, OEMs, and contractors the confidence to invest in cleaner technologies.”

At PlantWorx 2025, these systems will be demonstrated. From hydrogen-ready power units and fuel cell technology to solar-hybrid systems and low-emission plant, the Site Sustainability Showcase will offer a practical, working view of what decarbonisation means in real-world conditions.

While grey hydrogen — produced from natural gas — currently leads the global market due to lower cost and maturity, green hydrogen is where long-term focus is heading. The transition won't be instant, but construction businesses are already expected to plan for cleaner procurement, meet sustainability targets, and stay ahead of regulatory change.

PlantWorx 2025 runs from 23–25 September at Newark Showground. With a growing spotlight on alternative power and practical innovation, it’s the place to get informed, get ahead, and get your plans in place.
