Boss Cabins celebrates dual triumph at Plantworx: Sustainability goals achieved and comfort for the team in new Eco Cabins
For this year’s exhibition, Plantworx organisers were determined that all aspects of their site setup were as sustainable as possible and that included sourcing welfare that was as low-emission and environmentally friendly as possible. With this in mind, the team approached UK manufacturer Boss Cabins, who were more than happy to supply Plantworx with a selection of their new solar-powered Generator Free and Deep Green welfare to put through its paces and prove its eco credentials at a top-level industry event. Plantworx Operations Manager Stuart Favill explains: “When Plantworx needed on-site accommodation it had to tick all the boxes in terms of being as green as possible, Boss Cabins fitted the bill and were able to deliver on all the criteria. Our operation required multi-use facilities, 24/7 and with low impact on both the environment and the local community especially surrounding the event site. We approached Boss Cabins with our shopping list and they certainly delivered. The company was professional, had a great understanding of our requirements, provided high-quality cabins - but above all - were friendly and nothing was too much trouble.” The six GenFree and Deep Green cabins supplied were on site for 2.5 weeks in total and were given a very strenuous workout indeed, with the cabins being used by site operatives day and night for far longer than you would expect - up to 24 hours a day in some cases – and often using 4-5 times the amount of energy you’d expect in a standard welfare cabin. Stuart added: “At times we felt guilty for the high usage but none of the units faltered one bit.” With the cabins being almost wholly solar-powered, Plantworx was able to drastically lower its carbon footprint compared to using traditional welfare, saving on fuel, lowering emissions, and also eliminating any welfare-related generator noise. In extremely conservative calculation, Boss Cabins estimates Plantworx saved 867 litres of fuel and avoided over 2.7 tonnes of CO2 emissions during the 2.5 week period, with a financial fuel cost saving of £1863*. However, this is compared to cabin usage on a standard construction site of just a few hours per day. With Plantworx energy usage and occupation figures being 4-5 times standard, the actual saving was likely far higher than that. Boss Cabins Head of Customer Experience, Nicki Wordsworth commented: “We were delighted that our GenFree welfare could contribute to helping Plantworx bring down its carbon footprint and achieve its sustainability goals this year. As the GenFree range was already shortlisted for a Plantworx Environmental Innovation Award, it was great to be able to demonstrate to Plantworx organisers in real life just how well the generator-free cabins perform under duress and what a benefit they can bring to any site setup.” Plantworx’ Stuart Favill concluded: “Going forwards, we now have a good working relationship with Boss Cabins, and the company will be our go-to supplier for future events, especially for being green, clean but certainly not mean!” To read more, click here: https://www.bosscabins.co.uk/case-studies/genfree-case-study-plantworx/
